Workshop

It has been a very slow day at the lake.  We are in the middle of a heat wave and look forward to cooler temperatures at night. We were to have thunder storms today but it seems to have bypassed our area. Minimal work was done outside today. It is just to darn hot !

 I finished a baby blanket over the weekend and started another baby blanket. I am off to my workshop now where it is much cooler. Until tomorrow, stay cool.

A Sunday In Ste. Anne de Roquemare

Yesterday the village of Roquemaure celebrated  the feast day of Saint Anne, mother of the Virgin Mary.  Where I live, it is not uncommon to see crosses and statues to mark a crossroad either coming in or going out of a village. Most of the villages in the region have a saints name before the name of the village. For instance Roquemaure is St. Anne de Roquemaure.  The neighbouring village is St. Laurent de Gallichan. The locals use the saints name when they speak of the villages. It took awhile before I could connect the village to the saints name that came up in conversation.
I thought I would share a few of the roadside markers with you today. Enjoy, and please leave a comment so that I know I am not the only one reading these posts lol.

ALVIN, THEODORE AND SIMON ?

The chipmunks were out playing today on a pile of branches . We have several chipmunk families that live on our land.  They must have played follow the leader for a good half hour.  Something as ordinary as discarded branches was turned into a new plaything. Meanwhile Zucca was not about to be outdone by ordinary chipmunks so he decided to create a new look for himself. A good face rub in fresh cut grass and voila a green faced Zucca. Tres cool ! And that is the start of my weekend. How is yours?

SERENDIPITY

Mr. T. brought me a gift from the hillside that goes down to the lake. It is a tiny birds nest made from dry blades of grass. I looked at the bottom of the tiny nest and noticed a few dried shell particles stuck to the nest. We have hundreds of birds that live and visit our land. We are one and a half kilometers (one mile) from the largest marsh in Abitibi, Marais Antoine.
The delicate little nest deserved a special place in our home. I placed a little egg shaped green Aventurine stone inside the nest and then placed a glass cloche over the nest to protect it. The cloche sits on a shelf in the dining room.
 I looked up the meaning of aventurine and found this; origin early 18 century: from French, from Italian aventurino, from aventura 'chance' (because of its accidental discovery). 
It is fitting that the Aventurine sits in the little nest that was accidentally discovered on the hillside by Mr. T.

The Companions

A heavy wind and rain storm blew across the lake yesterday afternoon. We lost one of our oldest trees in the storm. The tree is one of the two trees that I refer to as the companions. The wind split the tree at about forty feet, the top part fell into the limbs of the other tree. The branches of the two trees are  entwined. The companion tree appears to be supporting the other. The storm raged on and off during the night. This morning the two trees still stand together one supporting the other. Mr. T. went out this morning to clean up the damage from the storm. Several small trees and large branches were strewn about. Some of the trees were a good size and will make fire wood for next winter. The lake is running fast today and more rain is the forecast.  It is a good day for knitting in the solarium. A bientot.

Who Will Read My Blog ??

I started this blog with the intention of sharing my day with my family.  My daughter and grand daughter live in Alberta, that is a lot of kilometers from where I live in northwest Abitibi two thousand nine hundred and ninety kilometers (2,990.2 according to MapQuest) All visitors are welcome.

My days are filled with the usual running of a household that consists of myself, my husband Mr.T. and our two fur babies Seepa and Zucca. I also feed the birds big and small and of course I couldn't forget the chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits  who drop by each day. I will also be posting pictures of the birds the regulars and the visitors. My day wouldn't be complete without knitting, reading and caring for my plants. I have been quite busy with my knitting projects and have project bags in literally every room in the house. I have added two charity projects to my ever growing list of knitting. More about the projects and my workshop in my next post.  Until next time.
